Poison centre notification in Portugal

Portugal is one of the few countries where a genuine national alternative still operates: hazardous mixtures may be notified through the ECHA Submission portal or directly on the notification platform of the Poison Information Centre (CIAV) at the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), whose current platform went live in January 2021.

Whichever route is used, dossiers are accepted in Portuguese or English and no fee applies. A practical nicety of the CIAV platform: each product notified and validated receives a notification certificate (comprovativo de notificação) by email, kept available on the platform — useful evidence for customers and inspectors alike.

The submission itself is the same in every member state that accepts the ECHA route: a PCN dossier in ECHA’s current format, carrying the mixture’s UFI, full composition, and product category.
